Silver Room Sound System Block Party

BACK TOGETHER AGAIN

You know you missed us! We missed you, and we just couldn’t leave you hanging for a third year, so we’re beyond excited to announce the return of the Silver Room Sound System Block Party©™!

We were planning our 2020 party when what we thought would be a couple weeks of uncertainty turned into a couple years. We were all upended by a surprising global health crisis colliding with racial unrest that felt too familiar. We made our way–as we always do–by finding inventive ways to adapt, connect and entertain. While we were away, we thought about what a block party really is: A celebration. A reunion. A kiki. A place to laugh, feel, heal and dream. To make memories and future plans. To dance, to sing, to vibe. Community. Togetherness. Tradition.

So finally, after everything we’ve all been through, we’re back for year 17 and better than ever. It’s the same southside summer energy with some major upgrades from previous years.  We’ve gone from a 1-day party to a 2-day celebration. And, get ready for a change of scene from the streets to the beach! We’ve outgrown our home in Hyde Park, so we’re relocating to the more spacious Oakwood Beach! So this year we’ll be partying with the skyline in our sights and the lake by our side.

And of course you can expect the usual dope musical lineup across multiple stages, but we’ve added local food vendors, a health + wellness area, a design pavilion, beach volleyball, and even more to come.

We’ve been putting in work to make this the most memorable Block Party yet. From grown folks to kiddos–it’s fun for everyone! So, join us for head nods, handshakes and hugs. Let’s celebrate the healing power of music and art, together.

This is for US.

The Connect International Showcase

  • 1633 West 100th Street Chicago, IL, 60643 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

June 3rd 6-10 PM in partnership with Joplin Marley Studios on the southside of Chicago is the opening reception for the Connect International Showcase. The Connect Residency is a networking and exhibition program servicing emerging artists founded by myself. More recently in 2021, I had a solo exhibit in New York City for two months, as well as being part of a group exhibit in France. Closing out 2021, I exhibited at a museum in Canada as well. Recently I founded the Connect International residency. This is an international networking and exhibit program for emerging artists. Artists from all over the world applied. I selected eight residents: four from Chicago, and four internationally. The participants were from Nigeria, Brazil, Turkey, and France. June 3rd I partnered with a gallery in Chicago, Joplin Marley Studios, for an opening reception.. The program worked virtually. We met via Google Meet for three weeks and the first hour was a virtual open studio. I gave advice on networking and advice on marketing. I introduced a “skill 15” – a fifteen minute presentation on a skill emerging artists identified needing to know. These skills include exhibit proposal writing, and speaking about your art. The second hour included interviews conducted by myself with art industry leaders. These guests included Emmy award-winning filmmakers, gallery owners from Portland, curators from NYC, professors with international reputations in the arts, and fine artists. All of the participants are creating art for this exhibit and it is my mission to simultaneously foster community appreciation for the arts and the exploration of individual identity with emerging artists. To continue the program and draw attention to the community benefits of the arts I would love to discuss a feature.
